Teen Program for students ages 15 1/2 - 18
All teens under the age of 18 must take Drivers Education before they are eligible to get a license. If you are 15 1/2 or older you can take the written test and obtain your permit without being enrolled in a driver education course. . You may want to do this if your schedule does not currently allow you to take Drivers Ed due to sports or other constraints. You must have your permit for 6 months before you can get your license.
However you cannot obtain your driver's license before you are 18 without taking a driver's education course.
Course includes: 17 (2) hour classes, including (4) hours of ZED computer simulation, (5) 1-Hour Drives with 2-3 Observation drives.
Following steps are to be taken by student:
Pre-apply for a "first license" at https://secure.dol.wa.gov/home/newDriver.aspx (If you have a Washington ID you do not need to do this.)
Call or text your pre-application confirmation number or Washington ID number to 509-737-1011. **This number will begin with WDL.
You must pass this test with an 80% or higher to obtain your permit.
Visit the DOL. Don't forget your Birth Certificate and Photo ID. Their fee is $25 for a permit. Any questions of what to take please visit the DOL website
